Arc. Michael’s church remnants
This was the Cathedral of the Orthodox Christians during the Knights era. It was built in the same architectural type as their first cathedral, the Virgin of the Castle, taken away by the Knights to become their gothic cathedral. It was built on the remnants of a pre-byzantine huge temple reaching as far as St Fanourios str. The remains of wall-paintings can still be seen inside the church in the apse.
It was converted into a mosque during the ottoman rule, named Demirli mosque, because of the iron frames of its windows. The 1944 bombing of the city left the monument in ruins.
