Rhodian Candia Tulip (Tulipa Saxatilis)
This is a rare species of tulip that grows on Rhodes, Crete and South Turkey. It flourishes on limestone soil, usually on riverbanks, plains and rocky hillsides. It can be encountered in the area of Mount Profitis Elias, the forests of the mount Ataviros and in cultivated or abandoned fields. Its leaves have an intensely green colour and a yellowish shade at their base, while the flowers are purple-pink or lilac, with a yellowish shade on the interior side of the petals. The flower blooms from March until May of every year.
