Retjep Pasha Mosque

Information

    This building complex, unique in the Islamic architecture of the Aegean, was built in 1587-88 (Year of the Hegira 966) and is accompanied by a mausoleum dedicated to Retjep Pasha and purification fountains. The ground plan is of a square shaped Ottoman building covered by a dome, a portico which forms the entrance, and a minaret. The niche of prayers and the minber are made of marble.
    In the international bibliography (Goodwin) it is reported as remarkable for its construction and its tiles, as well as the elaborate painted decoration of the main hall and the dome.
    The mosque is closed due to restoration works by the Hellenic ministry of culture.
