SAINT NICHOLAS IN FOUDOUKLI

Information

The temple is on the west of the village Eleousa, and dates back to the 14th to 15th century AD. It is a central square space, covered by a dome.
The frescoes also date back to the 14th to 15th century AD. On the south wall of the west niche, the owner and his wife are depicted holding the simulacrum of the temple and praying towards the bust of the Christ, who blesses them. On the north wall the three deceased children of the owner are depicted, one boy and two girls, praying under the bust of the Christ-Emmanuel. The temple was probably built and decorated in their memory. The artist, according to the sponsor’s order, painted Paradise in which the children had entered, with birds as decorative elements, while Christ is pictured as a child blessing them.
