Monolithos Castle

Information

It is situated on the top of a huge, lonely rock, which stands precipitous near the coast.
It was built in the 14th century by the Knights of Saint John, so that they would have control of the sea and protect the inhabitants from pirate raids.
In the castle, some cisterns and the half-deserted church of Saint Pantaleon are still preserved.
