Church of St. John remnants
The church was erected to the south of Grand Master’s Palace, connected to it by a great cross vaulted loggia, on top of the Knights’ street. The church was founded immediately after the installation of the knights in Rhodes in 1309. It was completed under Grand Master Helion de Villeneuve and was dedicated to St John, the protector saint of the Knights.
Only remnants can be seen today, since its total destruction, when the gun powder stored in its basement exploded in 1856, causing terrible damages to the Palace and other buildings in the area.
