Hellenistic wall remnants
During the Hellenistic era the city’s five ports, were well fortified. The mole, protecting the Great Port (the modern tourist port), laid outside the walls. Section of the Hellenistic wall that surrounded the Great Port was excavated inside the Medieval City, to the north-east of St. Catherine’s Hospice revealing the ancient fortification of the harbor, as well as the remnants of a gate and a tower.
The remnants continue to a north-south direction under the hospice and on the east side of the church of our Lady of the Burgum.
